Originally founded by the British weaver Thomas Kay in 1889 in Pendleton, Oregon, their first blanket was born in 1909 when Kay’s grandsons founded the Pendleton Woolen Mills. KAY was traveling from the Atlantic to Panama, before arriving in the America's newest state, Oregon in 1863, the ideal place for raising sheep and producing wool.
The Pendleton creates soft and light pure wool clothing in the Northwest Mills. The Pendleton Trade blanket is a mix of Pendleton’s tweed, and its designs are directly brought by Native Americans. Over the years, the Pendleton expanded itself and continues to innovate to create luxury fabrics.
The Pendleton Woolen Mills began making bed blankets and robes for Native Americans. Since 1863, the Pendleton still stays a family-owned business for six generations. The production of blankets was inspired by local and Southwest Native Americans, expanded for trading from the Nez Perce nation to the Navajo, the Hopi and the Zuni nations.
Their blankets are used for exchanges, arts and ceremonies in the history of Native Americans. These blankets had a standard value among Native Americans. Today, Pendleton works closely with Native Americans to produce high quality blankets. Its highest quality products are guaranteed by a label "Warranted to be a Pendleton".
Their legendary blankets are the treasure and the American heritage.
