Founded by Hiroki Nakamura in 2001, Visvim is Japan’s most iconic fashion brand. Visvim is positioned on the street wear movement with a Native American inspiration. Born in Kofu, Japan, Nakamura grew up in Tokyo in the 1980s and spent most of his teenage years in the capital. Fashion in post-war Japan was largely influenced by casual American clothing, and Nakamura quickly gained an understanding of – and fascination with – Americana style.

Encouraged by his parents to study in countries where Japanese was not widely spoken, Nakamura eventually traveled to Alaska. This relocation gave Nakamura the opportunity to spend a lot of time exploring rural America, camping, and snowboarding. In addition to these new outdoor activities, Nakamura traveled throughout northern Alaska, staying with several indigenous groups along the way to better understand their way of life.
