AVANT 3 "French Workwear"
Avant
In this third issue, An Anthology of French Workwear , we delve into the history of France, with a particular focus on workers, agricultural laborers and peasants in the 19th and 20th centuries.
We speak with Tom Gruat, the king of French workwear, as well as Denis Bruna, chief curator of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and Frédéric Marc Marion, dealer and collector of French workwear. We also talk with six specialists in French workwear in Japan, so they can explain why this style is currently experiencing a real boom there.
We visit Euro Costumes, a costume rental company located in Pantin, near Paris, and we talk with its owner, Pascale Bourtequoi, who tells us how she built up a colossal stock of vintage clothing.
We also teach you how to recognize the buttons on a French hunting jacket, and we explain what moleskin really is.
And other surprises to discover...
