New Balance is today the only major sports brand to have kept a shoe factory in England and one in the USA. The only ones to be able to affix the famous "Made in USA" or "Made in UK".

The 997 was born in the '90s. In an era where footwear was defined by technology, New Balance upped the ante, delivering a radical new aesthetic for the 99X line. While the 996 had seen the '80s by refining the 995, the 997 introduced the sawtooth instep (raised heel) and a thermoplastic Hytrel Strap system to tighten the foot in a "lock-like" manner.

The 997 was produced in both the United States and the United Kingdom, making it a unique shoe in the company's history.

In the 80s and early 90s, New Balance continued to innovate. In 1993, the silhouette of the famous 998 arrived. The solid ABZORB midsole appeared for the first time. This shape is still one of their best creations. This model has since become the timeless classic of New Balance.
